Welcome to the eLink Help File
This help file is a simple guide to maintaining files using the
eLink system. eLink is designed to keep your website
content fresh and our mission for this project was to keep this
as simple as possible!
Managing your content
eLink is a custom built and configured software solution,
and each page has set parameters that you can change and update,
including text, links, images and news points etc. Our system
is based on simple architecture that can be used whenever you
need to change your content, solid enough to update as many times
a day as you can.
Updating is instantaneous. Once a profile, or content page is
saved, the system writes the information into a master file, this
file can then be edited, deleted or previewed at anytime.
Lets Start at the Top!
Logging in to eLink
This parts pretty simple, just remember that the login system
IS case sensitive, and requires that you enter your username and
password exactly as supplied by Visionmax.
eLink Page Directory
Upon logging in to the eLink system, you will be directed to the
eLink Directory. Each list item in this directory lists
a page that you can edit, create new pages (Some eLink systems
are configured with the ability to write new pages), or delete
pages. Deleting pages totally removes the file from the system,
and cannot be reversed, this is why we have built a preview feature
into the interface, to ensure you know which file you're deleting.
Adding New Pages
If your eLink is configured to add new pages, simply click
the 'ADD NEW' button and this will take you to your profile/content
editor and allow you to start inputting your data.
Saving Changes
Once in your content / profile editor, you have the option to
fill in the text input boxes, select from drop down menus*, browse
for your image files, and include images* where they have been
included in the original templates. Upon entering all your information,
you have the options to SAVE, CLEAR (which clears all the fields)
or HELP which brings you to this file. Clicking on SAVE saves
all your information to the master file and is displayed to the
web.
Editing an existing page
Once you have created your pages (or have them pre designed in
some cases), the directory page provides you with the option of
editing an entry. You can use this feature to overwrite old data,
rather than creating new pages all the time. It is important to
remember that when you update a file, the old data is not retrievable,
as it replaces the existing data with that you're entering. Same
applies for image files, however, if you do not choose another
file, the old file will remain. In this case, its best to upload
a blank image, or a 'clear pixel' if didn't want an image to show
in its predetermined position.
Security - Time Out
It is almost impossible for anyone access the eLink system
without a valid username and password. It is impossible to access
it from the web, but we can't take responsibility for secure passwords
and usernames once they are released to clients. It is therefore
imperative that you keep you username and passwords secure at
all times, and unlike your credit card PIN, it may be best to
note the details OFF your computer, if your content is highly
secure.
A 'Time Out' feature has been built into the system to protect
access to the files while publishing. If the system gives you
a time out error, you will simply need to login again. Unless
you saved your work, all changes will be lost.
